Court dismisses 2020 protest case against CPI(M) leaders

The Fourth Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has dismissed a 2020 case against seven CPI(M) and CITU leaders over a protest at Maddilapalem Junction in Visakhapatnam. The case, filed by the MVP police, had accused the leaders of obstructing traffic and interfering with police duties during a demonstration supporting farmers protesting in Delhi.

The accused included CPI(M) senior leader Ch. Narsingarao, district secretariat members B. Gangarao, R.K.S.V. Kumar, and P. Mani, district committee member Botta Eswaramma, and Maddilapalem zone committee member K. Kumari. CPI(M) leaders welcomed the verdict, calling the case false and stating the police failed to produce proper evidence.

The party thanked Judge K. Vasudeva Rao and advocate K.A.J. Poornima for representing the accused. The order was passed on August 18, 2026.
