Two chain-snatching incidents target women in Dehradun and Bhubaneswar

In Dehradun, a 75-year-old woman was knocked to the ground during a chain snatching in Vasant Vihar Phase-2 on August 15. CCTV footage shows an unidentified man on an unnumbered Activa stopping to ask her for directions before grabbing her chain and fleeing. The woman struggled to get up after the fall. Her son filed a complaint at Vasant Vihar police station, and three police teams are searching for the accused, examining CCTV footage from the area. The incident has raised security concerns ahead of Independence Day checks.

In a separate incident near AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Tuesday morning, a woman fought back against two chain snatchers on a motorcycle. She pulled one suspect off the vehicle, causing him to fall. Alert locals overpowered him and handed him over to police. A firearm was recovered from the suspect, who is believed to be from outside Odisha. His accomplice escaped. Khandagiri police have launched an investigation and are verifying the arrested suspect's identity and criminal background.
