DMC urges building owners to paint by November 30
Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has asked owners of private and commercial buildings within its area to paint and maintain their properties in a clean condition by November 30, 2026, ahead of the festive season.
In a press release, DMC chief executive officer Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo said the appeal followed discussions with Dimapur civil society organisations on October 1 as part of efforts to improve the city's appearance. The council also directed shopkeepers and businesses to open only after 12 noon on Sundays, while allowing operations until 8 pm on weekdays, subject to applicable laws and government orders.
DMC appealed to residents, building owners and businesses to cooperate in maintaining a clean and orderly urban environment, stating that public participation was essential for residents' convenience and the city's overall improvement.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The November 30 deadline ties building maintenance to the festive season, giving property owners about six weeks to comply. DMC's consultations with civil society groups on October 1 suggest the council sought local buy-in before issuing the directive. The Sunday opening restriction from noon may affect small retailers who depend on morning footfall. Enforcement mechanisms remain unspecified. The council has not stated consequences for non-compliance by the deadline.
