Ex-Bengal deputy speaker Ashis Banerjee found dead at TMC office

Ashis Banerjee, former deputy speaker of the West Bengal Assembly and five-time Trinamool Congress MLA, was found dead at a party office in Rampurhat, Birbhum, on Sunday morning. Police said he was found hanging inside the office. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Livemint reports that a purported suicide note was recovered from the office near his residence. The exact circumstances leading to his death are yet to be ascertained. India Today notes that Banerjee was a five-time TMC MLA. The former deputy speaker's death has led to shock among party workers.
