Harda mandi sees record arrivals, crop prices above MSP
Over 600 trolleys of produce arrived at Harda district's agriculture mandi on Monday (12 October) when trading resumed after a five-day closure. Soybean, urad and red gram fetched prices above their minimum support prices (MSP). Soybean sold at up to Rs 6,400 per quintal, Rs 692 above its MSP of Rs 5,708. Urad reached Rs 9,000 per quintal, against an MSP of Rs 8,200, while red gram hit Rs 7,000 per quintal, Rs 1,125 above its MSP of Rs 5,875.
Maize traded between Rs 1,700 and Rs 2,300 per quintal, and moong sold at up to Rs 8,100 per quintal. The mandi secretary attributed the price rise to increased demand in the market. The strong prices, especially for soybean and urad, have brought relief to farmers after the closure.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The Harda mandi reopening after a five-day gap saw record arrivals and prices above MSP across several crops, directly benefiting farmers who had been waiting to sell. The premium over MSP, especially Rs 1,125 per quintal for red gram and Rs 800 for urad, indicates strong market demand rather than government procurement support. For soybean, the difference of Rs 692 per quintal offers particular relief in Madhya Pradesh, a major producer. Whether this price momentum holds depends on sustained demand from processors and traders in the coming weeks, as more trolleys continue to arrive.
