Harmanpreet Singh Vows to End India’s 51-Year Hockey World Cup Wait

India hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh has said the team is determined to end a 51-year drought and bring home the Hockey World Cup trophy. In an interview with JioStar, he pointed to back-to-back Olympic medals in Tokyo and Paris as a motivating factor and said the team believes it can win. India last won the title in 1975, beating Pakistan.

Singh stressed that defence will be the top priority and that converting chances in the opposition circle will be crucial. He called India underdogs, adding, 'We believe this is the right situation for us to show everyone what India can do.' The team recently beat Germany, Netherlands, Pakistan and England in the Pro League.

India opened their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Wales. Singh said the journey will be tough but the team is ready to go all out. The tournament continues as India chase a historic podium finish.
