Haryana businessman duped of Rs 2.9 crore with fake govt post promise

A Haryana businessman was allegedly cheated of Rs 2.9 crore by six people who promised him a chairperson post in a fake government council. Police registered an FIR at Chanakyapuri police station on August 13 based on his complaint.

The complainant, who manufactures Ayurvedic medicines, was introduced to the suspects through an acquaintance who told him about a newly formed environment safety council. An interview was arranged in a five-star hotel in Chanakyapuri, where two men posing as officials claimed the post came with a Rs 500 crore plantation budget, a government vehicle, security, salary, and accommodation. The businessman borrowed money and took a bank loan against his house to pay the suspects, who gave him an appointment letter.

The fraud unravelled when the complainant verified the document and filed an RTI application, learning no such council existed and that a prior FIR had already been lodged. Police are investigating the case.
