HYDRAA recovers park land, gets fresh complaint in Medchal

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday recovered 400 square yards of park land in Chandanagar, Serilingampally, following a Telangana High Court order. The agency fenced the site and erected notices after residents complained of repeated encroachment attempts. The layout was approved by HUDA in 1995. The High Court had directed GHMC to protect the park in 2022, but delays in building a compound wall led to fresh encroachment attempts.

On the same day, HYDRAA received a separate complaint from Mettu Surya Prakash alleging encroachment of a park and illegal occupation of a plot in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. Prakash said the layout, developed by Shanta Sriram Estates and approved by HUDA, had three public parks spread across two acres. He claimed the park land belongs to the government and that encroachers threatened him when he tried to build on his plot. HYDRAA is expected to verify the records.

Over the weekend, HYDRAA also demolished unauthorised structures on the full tank level of Bam Rukn Ud-Dowlah lake in Shivarampally. The Hindu reports that structures allegedly belonging to local legislator Mohammed Mubeen and MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig were among those pulled down. HYDRAA reclaimed about 10 acres of lake area. Officials said they would work with GHMC to restore the lake to its original extent.
