IMD says no cyclone forecast yet, low pressure area likely around Sept 19

The India Meteorological Department has not forecast any cyclone, only a low-pressure area likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around September 19, IMD Director General Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Wednesday. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and approach the Odisha-Andhra coast around September 23, bringing rain to north Andhra and southern Odisha. Mohapatra cautioned that forecasts made too far in advance may not be accurate and advised against panic over cyclone projections from other agencies.

Separately, a cyclonic circulation has formed over northern Thailand, which may lead to a low-pressure area over the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 19, odishatv.in reports. This system is likely to gradually intensify and move towards the southern Odisha coast over the following three to four days, potentially bringing another rain spell. The IMD is monitoring the weather systems and will provide updates as more data becomes available.
