India Post pilot helps 5 Gujarat FPOs double business, deliver 40,000 items

India Post's pilot in Gujarat, launched in November 2025, has helped five farmer producer organisations (FPOs) overcome logistical challenges and double their business, with over 40,000 items delivered in the past eight months. Chief postmaster general Ganesh Sawaleshwarkar said the initiative started in Ahmedabad and has expanded to Jamnagar, Porbandar, Bhuj, Mehsana, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar.

Under the arrangement, FPOs store small packs of products like dal, jeera and pickles at post offices. When an order arrives through the MyStore App on the ONDC network, India Post staff pack and dispatch the items. One FPO, Jamnagar-based Ranmal FPC, reported a turnover of about Rs 4 crore till July this fiscal, compared to nearly Rs 7 crore in the entire previous year.

The pilot was inspired by agriculture ministry additional secretary Maninder Kaur Dwivedi. Sawaleshwarkar said India Post charges standard shipment rates but offers bulk discounts. On a single day, orders reached 5,000. Expansion will depend on FPO onboarding through ONDC.
