Indian Army orders 840 attack drones from Tata, Nibe for Rs 1,577 crore

The Indian Army has signed contracts worth Rs 1,577 crore for 840 domestically produced one-way attack drones, to be delivered within 12 months under fast-track procedures. Tata Advanced Systems will supply 64% of the order and Nibe Defence the rest, with Tata emerging as the lowest bidder after trials and technical evaluation.

The long-range drones can strike targets over 100 km away and are designed to resist jamming and spoofing, incorporating lessons from 'Operation Sindoor'. The systems are intended to neutralise enemy artillery positions deep across the border.

This is the first major drone order under the fast-track procedure, enabling supplies to begin within six months of signing. Several larger orders for one-way attack drones, including systems with a 1,500-km strike range, are under process.
