Indiana floods kill 6, trigger record river levels, federal aid approved

At least six people, including a four-year-old child, have died after severe storms and flooding swept across Indiana, US. The Indiana State Emergency Operations Center reported the toll also included three women and two men. Two deaths were in Delaware County, and one each in Jennings, Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.

Flooding was severe along the White River in Indianapolis, where streets and homes were submerged. More than 350 evacuations were reported in Delaware County, and a senior mobile home community in Tipton County was also evacuated. Indianapolis fire department said 95 people and 45 pets had been rescued by late Saturday. The National Weather Service said some areas received over 11 inches of rain in two days, and the White River surpassed records set in 1913.

Indiana governor Mike Braun said US president Donald Trump told him the state's request for a presidential emergency declaration would be approved, paving the way for federal assistance. Rescue and welfare operations continued as river levels remained elevated, and emergency teams monitored further flood risks across central Indiana.
