Islam Makhachev sets UFC record with 17th straight win

Islam Makhachev defeated Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision at UFC 330 in Philadelphia on Saturday to set a new UFC record of 17 consecutive victories, breaking the previous mark of 16 held by Anderson Silva. Makhachev won 49-46 on two scorecards and 48-47 on the third in a competitive five-round welterweight title fight. The 34-year-old Makhachev, who also held the lightweight championship, has not lost since 2015. Sports.ndtv.com and Times Now both report the victory was hard-fought, with Makhachev suffering cuts and bruises to his face. Times Now notes that Machado Garry won the third round on all scorecards and rallied in the fifth, landing seven significant strikes to none for Makhachev.

UFC CEO Dana White said that if Makhachev continues on his current path, the record 'might never be beaten.' Machado Garry, 28, said he believed he was better than Makhachev on the night but offered 'no complaints, no excuses.' The win was Makhachev's first defense of the welterweight crown, which he won by beating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 in November 2025. The sellout crowd of 19,238 fans saw Makhachev nearly end the fight in the second round with a headkick and follow-up punches.

Makhachev's next fight has not been announced. The lightweight champion has seven total wins in title fights across two weight classes.
