Islam Makhachev defeats Ian Garry, breaks Anderson Silva’s UFC record

Islam Makhachev defeated Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision at UFC 330 in Philadelphia, securing his 17th consecutive UFC victory to surpass Anderson Silva's record for the longest winning streak. Times Now reported the judges scored the welterweight title bout 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47. Makhachev had entered the fight tied with Silva at 16 wins.

Makhachev used his wrestling and grappling to control large parts of the fight, according to Times Now. Garry survived a head kick knockdown in the second round and remained competitive in later rounds. Times of India reported that Khabib Nurmagomedov sent Makhachev a message on Instagram before the fight, writing that his rise came from 'hardwork, patience and discipline', and also called Garry a skilled and tough opponent.

Makhachev, a former lightweight champion, now holds the longest winning streak in UFC history. The win was his first successful defence of the welterweight belt. Times Now said potential next opponents include Shavkat Rakhmonov, Michael Morales and Carlos Prates. In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern defended her strawweight title against Gillian Robertson, as per Times Now.
