Jailer 2 trailer set for October 5 release, advance bookings slow
Sun Pictures has confirmed that the trailer for Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 will be released on October 5, 2026, ten days before the film's theatrical release on October 15, 2026. The trailer marks the next major promotional push for the sequel, which brings back director Nelson Dilipkumar and composer Anirudh Ravichander, alongside new cast members including SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
However, North American advance bookings as of 4 October have raised concerns. m9.news reports the film has grossed around $252,180 in pre-sales with 11 days to go, calling the numbers underwhelming for a sequel of this scale and noting that the Telugu version is moving slowly while the Tamil version tracks comparably to Rajinikanth's earlier film Coolie. The outlet frames Jailer 2 as Tamil cinema's biggest hope to reach the Rs 1,000 crore worldwide milestone.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The coverage splits between promotional news and box office anxiety. Timesnownews.com and filmibeat.com deliver neutral wire-style updates on the trailer date, casting, and IMAX release, with no mention of advance sales. m9.news, consistent with its sensationalist record, leads on the dollar figure and questions whether the film can hit Rs 1,000 crore globally, citing mixed promotional response. The balanced reading: the trailer release is a concrete catalyst that could shift momentum, but m9.news's numbers are the only pre-release data available. The next milestone to watch is whether ticket sales pick up after the trailer drops on 5 October.
