Karnataka CM announces split of Bengaluru police into five commissionerates

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday announced a major overhaul of Bengaluru's policing structure. The Bengaluru Police Commissionerate will be split into five separate commissionerates, and new police stations will be established where needed. Shivakumar called it a historic step towards better governance and public safety.

The CM also announced the creation of the Greater Bengaluru Authority along with five municipal corporations to decentralise administration. Mathrubhumi reports that the reforms aim to improve civic services and security for the city's growing population.

Separately, Shivakumar launched the 'Vidyarthi Sahayahasta' scheme, offering 7.5 per cent reservation within the existing 15 per cent rural quota for professional courses to students from rural government schools. The Department of Education is expected to announce implementation details in the coming weeks.
