KFC outlet in Mangaluru sealed after customer finds stale chicken

Food safety officials have sealed a KFC outlet at City Centre mall in Mangaluru after a customer complained that an online order contained spoiled, foul-smelling chicken, news agency ANI reported. The team inspected the kitchen, store room, cold storage and deep freezer, and collected food samples for laboratory testing. Further legal action will depend on the test results, Food Safety Department officials said.

The action is part of a wider crackdown across Karnataka. In Mysuru, officials seized 9 kg of expired chicken from Rio Meridian Hotel, 68 kg of meat from Grand Mercure Hotel and 4 kg of mushrooms from Q Star Hotel. The Health Department also inspected three resorts in Mysuru and Nanjangud taluks, issuing three notices and discarding 16 kg of expired food. In Bengaluru, a private hospital was found storing expired rava, icing sugar, maida and bakery products. Inspections at luxury hotels including Four Seasons and Shangri-La revealed expired milk and rotten meat, and legal proceedings have been initiated.
