Mysuru food raids seize 68 kg meat, chicken; Mangaluru outlet shut

Food safety officials in Mysuru seized 68 kg of meat from Grand Mercure Hotel, 9 kg of expired chicken from Rio Meridian Hotel, and 4 kg of mushrooms from Q Star Hotel during inspections on Saturday. The drive targeted expiry dates, storage conditions, and compliance with FSSAI norms across the city and district.

Separately in Mangaluru, the FSSAI directed a global food chain outlet at a mall to stop operations after a complaint about foul-smelling chicken. Dr Praveen Kumar, Designated Officer in Dakshina Kannada, told Deccan Herald that a preliminary inspection suggested the odour came from old stock. Samples will be sent for lab testing, and the outlet can resume only after the premises are cleaned and re-certified.

The Karnataka Health Department’s Food Safety Division has stepped up inspections in recent weeks, including finding expired raw materials at a Bengaluru hospital canteen and at the Arogya Soudha canteen. In Maharashtra, the state regulator has suspended licences of 14 businesses linked to Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart over safety violations.
