Kerala police arrest four SFI activists for SSUS protest

Kalady police have arrested four activists of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) in connection with a protest at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) during which a symbolic funeral of Vice-Chancellor Ciza Thomas was allegedly staged. The arrested are Mebin Jose, 24, Basil Scaria, 29, Vijeesh, 23, and Yadhu Krishnan, 19.

The arrests are recorded in two separate cases. The first case, registered on August 13 based on a complaint by a police officer on campus, alleges the activists manhandled and defamed the V-C and damaged her car. The second FIR, filed on August 16 on a complaint by Ms Thomas, books 18 students and other identifiable SFI members. The second case also alleges the activists obstructed police and assaulted personnel who used minor force to disperse them.
