Mohanlal to lead Khalifa 2 with Prithviraj reprising role
Pinkvilla reports that Khalifa 2 – The Legacy, the sequel to the Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer Khalifa Part 1, has been announced with Mohanlal in the lead. The film is directed by Vysakh.
Cinema Express adds that the sequel was unveiled at a post-release event, where it was confirmed that Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir will also play pivotal roles. Mohanlal plays Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, the grandfather of Prithviraj's character Mambarakkal Aamir Ali, introduced at the end of the first film. Tovino plays a hitman named Iver Alexander, and Soubin plays one of Ahmed Ali's trusted aides. The sequel is expected to explore the family's history and the gold smuggling world established in the first instalment.
At the announcement, Mohanlal jokingly said he did not know the story for the sequel. Jinu V Abraham, writer and producer of the first film, is writing the second instalment. Khalifa hit theatres on August 20.
