Konkani musician Henry D’Souza dies at 83 in Mumbai

Veteran Konkani musician, composer and singer Henry D'Souza died at his Mumbai residence on August 14. He was 83. D'Souza was best known for iconic songs like 'Ye Ye Katrina' and 'Ami Dogi Sezara', which remain popular at Goan weddings.

Born in 1943 in Basrikatte, Chikkamagaluru, D'Souza later settled in Mumbai, where he studied law and worked in journalism before turning to music. His most celebrated song, 'Ye Ye Katrina', recorded with Helen D'Cruz and released on HMV in 1971, had versions in Hindi and Sinhalese. He recorded over 700 songs for All India Radio and performed across India and abroad, including Sri Lanka, Bahrain and Kuwait.

D'Souza took Konkani music to a global audience through his concerts and broadcasts. His death marks the end of an era for the Konkani music scene.
