17-year-old detained for abetting woman’s suicide in Navi Mumbai

Vashi GRP has detained a 17-year-old boy on charges of abetting the suicide of Priyanka Mithu Ram, a 24-year-old salesgirl. She died after jumping from a moving train between Vashi and Mankhurd on August 1. The boy allegedly refused to marry her and sent her semi-nude video screenshots.

Priyanka's brother Mahadev Ram Mithu filed a complaint stating that his sister was under mental stress due to the accused's refusal. The boy, a native of Bihar working in Kalyan, was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Bhiwandi and sent to a shelter home. Police seized his mobile and found he had deleted the images; the phone will be sent to a forensic lab for retrieval.

The two had been in a long-distance relationship since April. On the day of her death, Priyanka sent a voice message to her mother saying she could not live without him. The case includes charges under the IT Act for violation of personal privacy.
