KVS urges Karnataka govt to drop proposal for new law varsity

Karnatak Vidyavardhakh Sangha (KVS) working president Basavaprabhu Hosakeri has urged the Karnataka government to drop its proposal to establish a new law university in the state. Speaking at a press conference, he termed the move condemnable and said the government plans to set up a Karnataka State Southern Law University in Bengaluru or Bengaluru South district, even though the Karnataka State Law University already functions in Hubballi.

Hosakeri alleged that the argument for another university based on the existing one being in North Karnataka reflects a sense of intolerance. He noted that the Hubballi university, established nearly 15 years ago, holds an ‘A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and has 109 affiliated colleges. However, it lacks adequate infrastructure, including library, administrative offices, and staff.

Instead of creating a new university, Hosakeri demanded that the government provide all necessary facilities to the existing institution in Hubballi. KVS will write to the chief minister asking him not to proceed with the plan.
