LPG e-KYC deadline extended to August 23 after server crash

The government and oil marketing companies have extended the deadline for LPG e-KYC to August 23, a week after the original August 16 cut-off. Bazaar.business today.in had earlier reported that consumers who missed the deadline could face trouble getting cylinders at subsidised rates. Aaj Tak reports that the extension was forced by widespread technical failures: servers crashed, apps malfunctioned, and long queues formed outside dealer outlets across the country.

Dealers told Aaj Tak that the underlying technical problems in the digital infrastructure of oil companies persist even in the new window. The e-KYC rule applies to all domestic LPG consumers of Indane, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas. While the connection will not be cancelled, consumers who fail to complete verification will not get cylinders at domestic rates until the process is done, and may have to pay commercial rates instead. Those who have already completed the process do not need to repeat it.
