Mirwaiz placed under house arrest, denies permission for Khawaja Digar

Kashmir's chief preacher, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said on August 17 he was placed under house arrest and denied permission to address the Khawaja Digar religious gathering at Khanqah-e-Naqshband Sahib. This is the third consecutive Friday he has been restricted, as per his social media posts.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz stated he was prevented from leading prayers at Jamia Masjid on August 14, despite official claims of normalcy in the region. He shared CCTV images showing police outside his Nigeen residence, questioning the credibility of the government's narrative.

Mirwaiz accused authorities of repressing religious rights and punishing him for his political views. He urged the elected government to protect the religious practices of Muslims in the valley and Jammu. The authorities have not yet responded to his claims.
