MMC&RI contract workers protest over three months of unpaid wages

Contract workers of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) staged a protest on Monday demanding immediate release of pending wages and an end to alleged harassment. The workers, under the MMC&RI Contract Workers' Union affiliated with AIUTUC, said their wages for three months had been kept pending while self-proclaimed supervisors subjected them to harassment.

The Hindu reports that a 20-day legal strike notice had been submitted in advance, but the MMC&RI administration failed to hold talks or resolve grievances. The union also alleged that workers have not been provided with regular wage slips, proper uniforms, or timely EPF and ESI contributions.

Union president Chandrashekhar Meti called the management's failure to address demands for minimum wages and timely payments a severe negligence and serious injustice. The protest is expected to continue on Tuesday as demands remain unmet.
