Mumbai businessman’s daughters attend his last rites in Sonipat by video call

A 74-year-old Mumbai businessman, Shivcharan Ramratan Gupta, was cremated in Sonipat, Haryana, after his daughters asked that the funeral be held there rather than moving the body back to Mumbai, and watched the ceremony over a video call, DNAIndia reported. Gupta, a former cloth merchant, had lived at a Sonipat old-age home for nearly three years, where his wife had also stayed before her death about two years earlier. After his death, the home's management contacted his daughters, who transferred funds online and asked that the cremation proceed in Sonipat, then requested the full ceremony be streamed to them. The home's management said one daughter stayed connected throughout and later asked for a recording of the rites. The family has been asked to collect his ashes before the 20th of the month.
