Mumbai Police rescues rare 100 kg loggerhead sea turtle

Mumbai Police patrolling the Arabian Sea rescued a distressed loggerhead sea turtle weighing over 100 kg. The turtle was struggling to swim near the territorial waters when ASI Suresh Bhalerao, ASI Prashant Borse, and PC Nilesh Malusare brought it ashore in their boat.

The police contacted RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare), whose members Arun Kadam and Mahesh Ithape took the turtle to Dr Rina Dev for treatment, in coordination with the state forest department's Mangrove Cell. After stabilisation, the turtle is being moved to the Sea Turtle Transit Treatment Center in Dahanu, run by the Wildlife Conservation and Animal Welfare Association (WCAWA), as Mumbai lacks a dedicated facility for sea turtles.

RAWW founder Pawan Sharma praised the quick response of the Yellow Gate police team for saving the rare marine life. The turtle will undergo further treatment and rehabilitation at the Dahanu centre.
