Nagaland Police to launch single-window complaint portal within 12 days

Nagaland Police will launch a single-window online portal within 10-12 days, DGP Rupin Sharma said on Tuesday. The system will let residents file complaints, track progress and access inquiry reports, regardless of whether a matter is civil or criminal. Every complaint will be assigned to an investigating officer for a preliminary inquiry to determine if it is a cognisable offence, non-cognisable or a civil dispute. FIRs will be registered for cognisable offences, non-cognisable complainants may be directed to a magistrate.

Senior officers from station level to the DGP can monitor complaints. Sharma said the system could help identify patterns in domestic violence, child abuse, stalking and harassment before they escalate. He urged victims to report incidents, warning that under-reporting makes it hard to assess the problem and allocate resources. He also cautioned NGOs and village councils against taking the law into their own hands in cognisable offences.

Director of Social Welfare Tosheli Zhimomi said one-stop centres handled 311 gender-based violence cases last financial year, and the Women Helpline received 144 cases. Under Mission Vatsalya, 640 child protection cases were received in 2025-26, and 639 children are in care institutions. The portal is expected to go live within the next 10-12 days.
