Nagpur’s Ambazari Lake to be developed as tourist spot, says Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday that Nagpur's Ambazari Lake will be developed into a major tourist destination. Fadnavis, who took a boat ride to inspect ongoing clean-up and development works at the lake, said the state government will provide funds and fully cooperate with the Municipal Corporation on the project. The lake, built in 1796 during the Bhonsle dynasty, is the largest and oldest in Nagpur and historically served as the city's key water source.

The site already attracts visitors with its Ambazari Garden, walking paths, and lake views. The proposed development aims to improve visitor facilities and infrastructure while preserving the lake's ecological character and highlighting its heritage and natural beauty. Nagpur, located at Maharashtra's geographical centre, is a gateway to wildlife and heritage destinations, and the project is expected to strengthen the city's tourism appeal. Fadnavis described Ambazari as an important part of Nagpur's cultural heritage.
