Namma Metro Blue Line deadline pushed from early to mid-2027

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has pushed the opening of Namma Metro's Blue Line from late 2026 to early or mid-2027. The nearly 19-km stretch connecting Silk Board and KR Pura along Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR) has pending civil and systems works at multiple locations. A senior BMRCL official said trial runs between KR Pura and HSR Layout may begin in October, but commercial operations within 2026 are not feasible.

Pending works include connectivity to the Byappanahalli depot, viaduct construction at Marathahalli and Central Silk Board, and station work at Iblur delayed by a GAIL gas pipeline and underground utilities. Land acquisition issues and design integration with the proposed Sarjapur-Hebbal corridor have also slowed progress. At Central Silk Board, late permissions from civic agencies delayed viaduct pillars needed for train reversal.

The delay means commuters may face both ongoing Metro construction and the Greater Bengaluru Authority's planned white-topping of the ORR from October 2026 to January 2027. The Rs 450-crore road project, set for cabinet clearance soon, could force 50% work-from-home for tech companies. The Blue Line is expected to serve 8-10 lakh daily commuters along the ORR.
