Latest hunt for flight MH370 ends without a trace, 12 years on

Malaysia's latest search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 ended on 23 January without locating the aircraft, its passengers or its flight recorders, the country's transport ministry said. The Boeing 777 disappeared on 8 March 2014 while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. The search, led by the firm Ocean Infinity using underwater drones capable of diving to 6,000 metres, began in December and covered about 15,000 square kilometres, following several earlier unsuccessful efforts, including the largest search in aviation history.

Relatives of the mostly Chinese passengers published an open letter thanking Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for restarting the search, but said they had received no further briefings since 15 January and no response despite repeated contact with the transport ministry. They also said they had received almost no psychological support in 12 years. The families were expected to meet China's foreign ministry and deliver their letter to Malaysia's embassy in Beijing.
