Mississippi nursing board investigates Nolan Wells’ mother after complaint

Attorney Ben Crump said on 5 August that the Mississippi Board of Nursing had opened a professional misconduct case against Christine Wonsley, the Ocean Springs, Mississippi teenager Nolan Wells's mother, after an anonymous complaint filed once her son died, Hindustan Times reported. Crump wrote on X that the complaint was "a distraction" and "intimidation," adding "we will not let it stand," and said Wonsley had never previously faced a complaint in her nursing career, neither the complaint nor the board's findings have been made public.

Wells went missing on 4 July after taking a boat with friends to Horn Island, and a park ranger found his body northwest of the island on the morning of 6 July, ending the search. Wonsley has since faced one-star reviews on her professional profile. Two of Wells's friends, Jayvon Williams and Tracetin Shepherd, asked the public to stop making his death about race, while Crump separately drew criticism for sharing a pool-party photo of Wells that carried misleading information.
