Oman’s Wadi Hoquain offers blue-green pool with natural skincare

Travel filmmaker Sayan Nath has highlighted Wadi Hoquain in Oman, a natural pool with sulphur-rich water that locals believe offers skin benefits. The pool, located in the Al Batinah region near Rustaq, gets its striking blue-green colour from minerals in limestone mixing with spring water. Nath compares the water to skincare ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, and retinol, though experts caution this is a playful metaphor rather than proven fact.

Wadi Hoquain is about 1 to 1.5 hours from Muscat and features pools, small waterfalls, and narrow canyon passages. Visitors note the water changes from clear near the entrance to milky vivid blue further in, with mineral deposits streaking the rocks. The wadi flows from the Hajar Mountains and offers a surprising contrast to Oman's typical desert landscape.

The spot works well as a day trip from Muscat, though accessibility depends on water levels and season. While no solid evidence supports the skincare claims, the geological phenomenon behind the colour remains a draw for travellers.
