Project 39A Online Death Penalty Course Opens August 12

Project 39A at National Law University, Delhi will begin a two-month online certificate course on capital punishment in India from September 12 to November 1, 2026. Registration opens on August 12 and closes on September 10. The fee is Rs 10,000, non-refundable, and the course requires 75% attendance and a final online assessment exam on November 1.

The programme covers theoretical, constitutional, procedural, forensic, comparative and reform dimensions of the death penalty. It features eminent faculty including senior advocates Saurabh Kirpal, Siddharth Luthra, Rajshekhar Rao, Sanjiv Sen and Shailesh Madiyal, former Delhi High Court judge Justice J.R. Midha, and international experts from the University of Bremen. Live weekend sessions run four hours a week, with recordings accessible for three months.

Designed for students, lawyers, academics, forensic science students and researchers, the course aims to provide both doctrinal knowledge and practical skills for advisory, litigation, research and policy work. A hybrid closing session at the NLU Delhi campus is also planned.
