Quimcy Dsouza loses bronze in teqball singles and mixed doubles

India's Quimcy Dsouza lost the women's singles teqball bronze medal match 0-2 to Japan's Yuina Sakamoto at the Asian Games in Nagoya on Saturday, with both sets ending 12-11. Minutes later, Dsouza and partner Mohamed Anas Beg also lost their mixed doubles bronze medal clash 0-2 to Vietnam, capping a double setback.

Dsouza, who beat Sakamoto in the group stage, had set point in the first game and a 10-8 lead in the second but could not close out either set. She saved a match point with a winner before committing a foul that handed Sakamoto the match. The 24-year-old, a seven-time national champion who works as a test engineer at Decathlon in Bengaluru, had earlier lost her singles semifinal to Indonesia's Sumaya 1-2.

Teqball made its Asian Games debut at the 20th edition. The non-contact sport, which combines football and table tennis, is played on a curved table.
