N Chandrasekaran pays tribute to Ratan Tata, will not seek reappointment

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran paid tribute to Ratan Tata in a LinkedIn post after the industrialist's death on October 9 at age 86. 'Anybody who met Mr Tata came away with a story about his humanity, warmth, and dreams for India. There really was no one like him,' Chandrasekaran wrote, Livemint reports. The tribute measures Tata not by his business achievements but by the personal impression he left on everyone he met.

Separately, the New Indian Express reports that Chandrasekaran announced on August 12 he would not seek reappointment as Tata Sons chairman when his term ends in February next year. He informed board members by email and urged employees not to be distracted, saying institutions must be bigger than individuals. The decision follows over six months of efforts to reach an understanding with Noel Tata, chairman of the Tata Trusts.

Chandrasekaran, who joined TCS as a trainee engineer in 1987 and became chairman in 2017, oversaw a sweeping transformation of the group into semiconductors, defence, aviation and electric vehicles. His exit brings an end to simmering tensions at Bombay House that began after Ratan Tata's death altered the ownership structure, the New Indian Express reports.
