The claim surfaced as Infantino faces controversy over his now-abandoned plan to sell a minority stake in the World Cup to private investors, which FIFA says is off the table after apologising to its Council and member associations for how the process was handled. FIFA denied the hosting claim outright, with a spokesperson calling it false and misleading to say the president had made any such promise and stating that a decision will be made by FIFA in due course. Morocco is set to co-host the 2030 tournament with Spain and Portugal, though the final's host venue has not been decided.
