SC, ST, Muslims lowest pass rates in Karnataka exams

Cumulative data from the Karnataka School Education and Assessment Board for 2024-26, analysed by Deccan Herald, shows Scheduled Caste students had the lowest pass rate in PUC exams at 65.96 per cent. Scheduled Tribes and Muslims followed with 77.73 per cent and 78.69 per cent respectively. In SSLC exams, Muslims had the lowest pass rate at 73.46 per cent, closely followed by STs at 73.59 per cent and SCs at 74.16 per cent. The Others or general category topped both exams with 90.71 per cent in PUC and 86.84 per cent in SSLC. Sociologist Prof A R Vasavi attributed the disparity to deteriorating quality of government schools and privatisation affecting marginalised groups.
