SC gives Rajpal Yadav final two weeks to deposit Rs 2 crore in cheque case

The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav a final two-week extension to deposit Rs 2 crore with the court registry in a cheque-bounce case. A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana remarked that Yadav's past conduct does not inspire confidence and that he is "perfect at doing drama" in court. However, it granted the last opportunity after his counsel said Yadav had already spent four-and-a-half months in jail and would deposit the amount to prove his bona fide. The exemption from surrendering continues till October 5.

The case stems from a 2010 loan of Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects for Yadav's directorial debut, which became a box office flop. Multiple settlement agreements and security cheques led to seven dishonoured cheques of Rs 1.05 crore each. A sessions court convicted Yadav and his wife Radha in 2018, later reduced to three months' imprisonment. The Delhi High Court in July 2026 upheld the conviction, citing Yadav's repeated failure to honour payment undertakings. The Supreme Court has posted the next hearing for October 5.
