Vishwanath and Sons crosses Rs 110 crore worldwide in opening weekend

Suriya-starrer Vishwanath and Sons has collected Rs 110.22 crore worldwide in its first weekend, according to Sacnilk. The film earned Rs 20.55 crore net in India on Sunday, its third day, taking the domestic net to Rs 58.15 crore. The Telugu version drove strong overseas numbers, with the film grossing about $1.5 million in North America, Suriya's biggest opening weekend in that territory, reports Greatandhra.

Greatandhra adds that the Telugu version contributed roughly $900,000 of the North American total, despite the film not being shot separately in Telugu and having limited promotions there. TeluguCinema notes the film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide in three days, a strong performance for a family entertainer in a market dominated by mass and action films. The picture, directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Naga Vamsi, stars Mamitha Baiju opposite Suriya.

The film's day-on-day domestic net figures show a 7.6% drop from Saturday's Rs 22.25 crore, based on Sacnilk data cited by Greatandhra. The key test, multiple outlets say, will be how Vishwanath and Sons performs on weekdays.
