TMC panchayat leader arrested for murder of Bengal Congress leader and son

West Bengal police on Sunday arrested Fatema Bibi, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat leader, along with two associates in connection with the murder of Congress leader Anisur Rahman and his son Abu Sufian in Nadia district. The father and son were shot and hacked to death on Saturday night near Bethuadahari railway crossing. Police have remanded the accused to nine days' custody.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the murder was orchestrated by Fatema Bibi's husband, Jubbar Sheikh, from jail. The Congress has called a statewide 'Black Day' and accused the police of negligence. State Congress president Suvankar Sarkar linked the killings to TMC leaders switching to Congress after the regime change, while TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh pointed fingers at the BJP and a rival TMC faction. The investigation continues.
