Taiwan detects 11 Chinese warplanes near the island

Taiwan detected 11 sorties of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, eight PLAN vessels, and two official ships operating around the island up to 6 am on Sunday, its Ministry of National Defence said. Seven of the 11 aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line and entered the northern and central parts of Taiwan's Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

The ministry reported the activity on social media, adding that its armed forces had monitored and responded. On Saturday, Taiwan had detected four PLA aircraft sorties, eight PLAN vessels, and one official ship, with three of the four sorties crossing the median line. Beijing considers Taiwan a part of China, while Taipei functions as a separate entity with its own government and military.
