Telangana to roll out 1.05 crore QR-code ration cards from August 15

Telangana's government will launch distribution of 1.05 crore laminated Public Distribution System ration cards from 15 August, Independence Day, The Hindu reported. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally commence the rollout in Sangareddy, with distribution proceeding simultaneously across all 119 Assembly constituencies. The existing cards, which carry a beneficiary's name and family photo, will be replaced by cards the size of a debit card, each bearing a number and a QR code that can be used to fetch beneficiary details online, officials said only the card itself changes, and the quantity of food grains distributed will not. Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has directed officials to finalise and verify constituency-wise beneficiary lists and arrange registration and distribution, calling the rollout one of the most significant welfare initiatives of the state government, aimed at strengthening food security and extending Public Distribution System benefits to newly eligible families. Food grains for August, September and October continue to be distributed at ration shops in the meantime.
