Thief returns Rs 19 lakh after black magic scare in Andhra Pradesh

A thief in Narasaraopet, Palnadu district, returned Rs 19 lakh in cash voluntarily after hearing that the victims were resorting to black magic to identify him. The cash was found in a bag left on the victims' shoe stand on Saturday, along with a note begging them not to perform occult rituals. The burglary occurred on the night of July 30 at the home of Adinarayana Reddy and Koteswaramma in Balaji Arcade apartments, who had left for a relative's funeral.

The thieves stole Rs 25 lakh cash and 317 grams of gold. Police investigations, including fingerprint analysis and CCTV footage, made no progress in two weeks, leading the victims to consider divination. Local word-of-mouth about the planned black magic allegedly panicked the thief, who returned his share of the loot. The note reportedly pleaded that the other accomplices not be questioned and that no witchcraft be performed.

The case has become a talking point on social media. Police suspect the thief may be known to the victims, as the bag was recovered discreetly. A similar incident recently occurred in Tun, where thieves abandoned stolen goods fearing a village council excommunication.
