DMK mouthpiece slams CM Vijay for seating Trisha at I-Day event

The DMK's official mouthpiece, Murasoli, has published a sharp editorial attacking Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay for seating actress Trisha in the front row at the state's Independence Day celebrations on August 15 and exchanging salutes with her. The editorial said Vijay's dignity had flown away in the wind and questioned whether he had any shame or embarrassment over the optics of the occasion. It said even Vijay's own voters could not tolerate the sight.

Trisha's presence at the flag hoisting ceremony at Fort St George has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread trolling and criticism. She was seated alongside Vijay's parents and was seen saluting the chief minister as he reviewed the proceedings. The editorial noted that Trisha has now made five joint public appearances with Vijay. Her friendship with Vijay has long been subject to speculation, particularly after Vijay's wife Sangeetha filed a divorce petition in February 2026, citing mental cruelty and alleged adultery. Sangeetha withdrew the case earlier this month.

The editorial frames the episode as a sign that Vijay, whose TVK party came to power earlier this year, is already showing anxiety about his political standing. DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested on August 4 over comments about Trisha and was released on bail. Vijay and his party have not publicly responded to the editorial yet.
