Tucson cyclist sucked underwater, survives after dramatic rescue

A 20-year-old female cyclist survived after being sucked underwater while trying to cross a flooded bridge in Sabino Canyon, Tucson, Arizona, on Thursday. A viral video shows the woman struggling and then vanishing under churning water as bystanders attempt to help. She was rescued after several minutes underwater and revived with CPR.

Another woman who tried to assist was swept 100 feet downstream before being rescued. Both victims were taken to a hospital in stable condition. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos warned against crossing flooded washes, saying the powerful force of the water could have been fatal.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office reiterated that no one should attempt to cross flooded areas on foot, bike, or in a vehicle. The incident underscores the dangers of monsoon flooding in the region.
