TVRF seeks deadline extension for Telangana electoral roll corrections

Telangana Voter Rights Forum (TVRF) has urged the chief electoral officer to extend the claims and objections period for electoral roll corrections until December 31, citing over 90 lakh electors flagged with anomalies. The forum said the rushed door-to-door enumeration, inadequate outreach, and failures at various levels left many voters unable to link their details with the 2002 electoral roll.

The Times of India reports that TVRF highlighted issues such as booth-level officers not collecting forms despite repeated calls, missing names after online or offline submission, and misspelt names in registrations. The forum also demanded removal of what it called contradictory Aadhaar gatekeeping, noting that while Aadhaar is not accepted as proof of citizenship, it is effectively made indispensable at several stages.

Separately, CEO C Sudharshan Reddy said around 15 lakh notices have been generated for flagged electors but only about 650 have been served so far. He expects the process to pick up in the coming days. Hyderabad district alone accounts for about 12.5 lakh electors facing notices, with anomalies triggered by age gaps, relationship mismatches, and discrepancies with 2002 records.
