Ukraine accuses Russia of war crime after drone attack on Kherson vegetable seller

A video released by Ukrainian police shows a Russian drone pursuing and wounding a Kherson vegetable seller, and Kyiv has labelled the strike a war crime, The Hindu reported. Police said the man, named only as 52-year-old Yurii, suffered shock and shrapnel injuries after the drone exploded as he dived for cover behind his van on 4 August 2026. Reuters matched the footage's location to satellite and archive imagery of buildings, roads and vegetation, though it could not independently confirm the date, Ukraine's police and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha maintain the attack happened that Tuesday. Russia's Defence Ministry did not answer a Reuters request for comment. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the footage part of a Russian drone campaign against civilians and pressed for tougher measures against Moscow, while the UN's monitoring mission logged 1,396 civilian deaths and 7,978 injuries across Ukraine in the first half of 2026, a sharp rise on the previous two years. Both Kyiv and Moscow deny deliberately targeting civilians.
