Woman, daughter murdered with sickle in UP’s Etawah

A 55-year-old woman and her 38-year-old daughter were found murdered with a sickle at their home in Chandehti village, Etawah district, police said on Monday. The bodies of Pushpa Devi and her daughter Nirmala alias Manju were discovered on Sunday evening after a milkman alerted the husband, who works in Noida. A dog squad and forensic team collected evidence from the scene, and post-mortem examinations have been ordered.

Police said Nirmala had been sent back to her parental home four months after her marriage to Satyendra Kumar, following alleged assault by her in-laws. She had sought maintenance in court, and on August 3 the court ordered Satyendra to pay Rs 7,000 per month, a divorce petition is pending. Neighbours reported that an unidentified young man on a scooter visited the house on August 14 and 15 and was last seen near the house around 9 pm on August 15. Police are investigating the murders and the man's visits.
